Golden Gobi
Images of the Gobi vary, through most people think of it as a barren desert where no living being could possible survive. But the Gobi region occupies 30 percent of Mongolia's territory and people do live there, as does a variety of flora and fauna. The Gobi bear, wild camel, antelope, wolf, fox and lizard among others have all adapted to the harsh Gobi environment and made it their home. Scientists believe that millions of years ago the Gobi was a seabed- and there are many fascinating natural rock formations to give credence to this. As a result, however, the greater part of the Gobi is flat and endlessly open steppe that stretches out to the horizon in every direction. It is commonplace to be able to see objects up to 300 km away.
